When to use Bypass
If your center uses the fingerprint reader to check children and employees in, but you have a few people who do not have readable finger prints, you can set them up to bypass the fingerprint reader. For example, a hospital nurse, who has scrubbed their hands every day for the past 15 years, may not have a readable finger print. With the bypass feature they’ll use a combination of a Personal ID Number and a Password.
How to use Bypass
The first thing to do is generate a new Temporary Registration Number for the person. Next have them go to the Check In station and click the Register button. Enter their registration number, verify their name and click Next. The following screen prompts them to put their finger
on the reader four times. Instead, have them click the Bypass button (lower right). Now the person is prompted to enter a 4 to 8 digit Personal ID Number (PIN) of their own choosing. The next screen prompts them to enter a 4 to 8 digit Password they also choose, but it must be different from their PIN. Keep in mind these numbers cannot be something generic like “1234” or “3333”. Now when the person goes to clock in and they click Start Here, instead of using the fingerprint pad, they click the Bypass button. Then they are prompted to enter their PIN and then their Password. The rest of the check in process is the same as any other person.

Enable the Bypass Feature
If the Bypass button does not show up on the Registration screen, you will need to go into Check In Options to turn on “Allow Bypass”. To get to there go to the check in screen and press the escape key “Esc” (on your keyboard) or double-click the gray area above the Register button. Three choices will appear: Cancel, Options and Exit. Click Options. In the middle of the Options screen under Check In Type place a check in the Allow Bypass box. Now the Bypass button should show up when registering or after clicking Start Here.

I happened to speak with two center owners this past week that both had some pretty deflating news. They called to tell me that their computers crashed and they had no backups of their data. I always feel sick to my stomach when I hear this news. A computer crash can happen to anyone, and usually it is not the end of the world… when you have a backup. You simply purchase a new hard drive or computer, reinstall Procare and restore your recent backup. Then you’re up and running again.
In the case of both these child care centers, however, they had to re-enter all of their data from the beginning of the year. ‘Lesson learned’ is what they tell me, but it doesn’t have to be this difficult of a lesson.
Backing up your data should happen at the end of each business day. The backup process takes mere seconds, and it can save you hours or days of data entry. You can also set the backup to take place automatically, so there’s no excuse.
See how easy it is to back up your data in this video clip.
If running a backup is not your cup of tea, you may also want to consider our Data Hosting Service. With Data Hosting we act as your nightly backup service, you no longer need to purchase annual updates, and you can access your data from work, home, or any computer with the Data Hosting software installed.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to take twenty seconds of your day to make a backup onto a USB flash drive. You’ll thank yourself when, or if, anything happens.

This grape salad is a quick, fresh and easy addition to anyone’s Thanksgiving table. A friend of mine first introduced this Grape Salad to me at a Fourth of July picnic, and I was hooked. It can be thrown together in a few minutes, and kids will gobble it up too! Enjoy!
Thanksgiving Grape Salad
- 2 pounds seedless green grapes
- 2 pounds seedless red grapes
- 8oz cream cheese
- 8oz sour cream
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup brown sugar
Wash and stem grapes, let dry and set aside. In a large bowl cream together cheese, sour cream, white sugar and vanilla. Add grapes. Add brown sugar and pecans. Toss
again. Chill at least 2 or 3 hours before serving or can be made the night before.
